My name is Julian Ortiz, a self-taught photographer and film developer, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1975. My photography journey started shortly after moving to DC in 2002. I became interested in street photography as a way to express my feelings about living in a new city, a new country and in a new culture. I have a sincere passion for all things photographic, beautiful light, urban people, billboards, storefronts, architectural spaces, and quirky details viewers may otherwise miss. Late 2010, I started to develop my film and prints on a darkroom. Once you see your negatives and prints for the first time, you’ll see a little bit of that magic and you won’t want to stop. My work has been on Juried Exhibitions like Exposed DC and Crystal City Underground. It has appeared in numerous newspapers and sites, such as The Washington Post’s Express, The Washington Examiner, DCist, PoPville and many more. As well on Argentine newspapers like La Nación, Clarín, and Infobae.com. Currently, I am the staff photographer at the Embassy of Argentina in Washington, DC. I work extensively in diplomatic meetings, major government events, professional conferences, as well in private and non-profit fundraising galas.
