Seeking Local Creativity with Therefrom

At a time where the world seems obsessed  with feeding us a never-ending stream of content, it becomes harder and harder to find cool creative stuff from smaller, local creators. Here's what I mean:

You're planning to travel to X city. You may have already found things to do there and places to visit, but maybe you also want to check out the creative scene. You know, those interesting art galleries, creative spaces, interesting artists who are doing some cool things. Maybe you like photography and want to see who is doing what and where. Or music. That's a big one. You love discovering new music and want to find out who some local bands and musicians are and where they go to perform and what kind of music is in right now.

So how do you start? Where do you start? I'm guessing either Instagram, Google, or TikTok will probably be your first stop. You type out "local [FILL IN THE BLANK]" and what do you see? Articles, posts, content pointing to who and what to check out. But you notice one thing. Almost everything is posted by people not from there. These may be tourists, nomads, bloggers, etc. They may be great content creators, but the content does not come from a truly authentic source. And amidst all this social media and Google searching, you come across endless posts of "Top 10 Things To Do" and "What to Watch," etc. It ends up being a rather long and frustrating process. Maybe not. Maybe it takes seconds. But the nature of today’s incredibly oversaturated and overwhelming social media landscape makes this whole thing not as simple or easy as it should be.

That's where Therefrom was born. The idea or belief that this search process should be easy. Local creativity should take center stage and should be celebrated, promoted, supported, and discovered. Our mission is to showcase local creativity through print and digital content in a way where you, yes you, can discover and support these incredibly talented people and communities. Ones that don't have 870K followers on Instagram and yet are doing some amazing things. And while you're at it, if you decide to purchase one of our print products featuring works of local photographers, you not only support them but you are also significantly supporting local charities as well. Fifty percent of profits from all print products go to local charities. Because we want you to positively impact the places that you travel to. The places that you love. We want the places we cherish to thrive creatively, economically, socially, and culturally in a sustainable way.

But how, you may ask? How do you achieve this rather grandiose ambition?

Well, simply put, by talking and collaborating. We collaborate with local creators – photographers, artists, storytellers – who possess an intimate understanding of their surroundings. Together, we curate collections of wall prints and stories and visuals and audio, each offering a glimpse into the soul of a city, town, or village, as seen through the eyes of its residents. And it might not be perfect at first, but we are going to give it a go. There is too much at stake without it. So welcome to Therefrom and join us on this journey of discovery, where every print tells a story, every piece of content celebrates local creativity, and every contribution makes a difference.
